This is an extremely detailed and informative guide to harvesting edible wild plants. It includes a description, range and habitat information, and harvesting and preparation techniques for each of the 30+ plant-types described. Each description is introduced by a quirky anecdote, and the detail involved in the writing as a whole displays the authors deep knowledge on the subject.

However, he does describe harvesting and preparing many native plants that are now quite rare and these should NOT be consumed due to their conservation value. A few examples include species such as spring beauties, swamp saxifrage, and groundnut (“nuts” are fine to harvest, roots, not so much). Please don’t let your interest in foraging further imperil our already highly degraded ecosystem.
